Show Your Support In Pride Month 22 Blog (1)

This is by no means an exhaustive list of ways to show your support to the LGBTQ+ community however we hope it provides you with some practical ways to boost your allyship. We’d love to hear from you if you have any other ideas or insights.

“Research tells us that in 2022, the United Kingdom is a country that is proud to be inclusive; one where its people are increasingly embracing their LGBTQ+ neighbours, colleagues, family and friends. However, with intolerant, minority viewpoints being presented as fact in our media and in our politics, it’s never been more important to show up to protect our rights.” - Stonewall

Attend a Pride parade or Event

All over the world there will be a range of festivals and parades to join throughout the months of June and July. To find pride events in your city, check out this useful guide:

Be supportive

When someone in your life tells you that they are LGBT+, you may have questions or concerns. Your initial reaction may be one of surprise, excitement, confusion, discomfort, or none of the above. Be kind in your response. Even if you struggle with what you have been told, recognise the importance of your response and the impact it may have.

To talk things through confidentially reach out to the Switchboard LGBT+ Helpline on 0300 330 0630.

Become an Advocate

If your company doesn’t already have a Pride Employee Community then start one! We are by no means perfect, and with the support from our DEI specialist partner, we are committed and passionate about becoming a more inclusive employer.

Volunteer or Donate

Each year we dedicate a certain number of days to charity so each of our colleagues can take part in charitable initiatives that are close to their heart. We have provided our teams with opportunities to get involved and give back to the community through a volunteer initiative such as supporting a local LGBT+ youth or community centre or raising money for a charity/foundation such as the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

Use of pronouns

Adding your pronouns next to your name on video chats, on your email signature and on LinkedIn is a simple step that anyone we can all take to be a trans ally. Sharing your pronouns (if you’re comfortable to) and asking the same of your colleagues, can help create a culture where no one’s gender identity is assumed.

At the end of the day, if people can be their authentic self at work, they’ll be happier, more engaged and more likely to do great work!
