Pedal Power at Head Resourcing

Pedal Power

With offices in Edinburgh and Leeds, the charity committee at Head Resourcing decided to do something a little different this year for Children in Need. With a bike set up on the front steps of the Manor Place office and within the reception of The Calls in Leeds, a challenge was set and there was no going back.

Over a 10hr period on Friday the staff from both offices battled it out in freezing temperatures and raced against each other to keep the pedals moving, dressed as their favourite superhero characters. Between them all, a total distance of 708km was achieved with the Leeds team alone doing 408km, which is more than the actual distance from Leeds to Edinburgh! It’s fair to say there were a few sore legs the next day!

To reward all the athletes and to warm them up after their exertions, bowls of delicious chilli with a range of sides were available to purchase. Through the pain and the sweat, the rattling of buckets on the street followed by the eating of numerous bowls of chilli, a total of £1280 was raised. This is an amazing achievement and contributed to the record total of £46.6m raised on the night. Compared to last years’ total of £37.1m this is a staggering amount.

A special thanks to all those who supported this event – Pure Gym, for the loan of the bike; Chris at Discounted Office Supplies for transporting the bike; Janice Millhouse for making the chilli and of course all the people who kindly donated money on the day and to the athletes themselves!

BBC Children in Need is the BBC’s UK corporate charity. Thanks to the support of the public, they are able to make a real difference to the lives of children all across the UK. They are currently supporting over 2,400 projects across the UK which help children facing a range of disadvantages for example poverty and deprivation; children who have been victims of abuse or neglect or disabled young people and their families.

The charity committee at Head Resourcing organises a number of events throughout the year and chooses a different charity for each event. A total of £6500 has been raised this year alone.  Charities this year include Sports Relief, The Yard, Erskine Veterans, Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer, Blythswood Care and Children In Need. Stepping Stones has been chosen as the Christmas charity and children’s books are currently being collected.

Through the support of all the employees at Head Resourcing along with support from clients, suppliers, candidates and contractors a real difference can be made whilst raising the profile of the brand and engaging with a wider audience.
