We all know how challenging it can be to balance work and personal life, especially during these uncertain times. That's why we are supporting the ‘Time to Talk’ campaign today (Thursday 6th February). Time to Talk is a campaign that encourages people to have conversations about mental health and well-being. It is important because it helps to break the stigma and silence that often surrounds mental health issues. Talking openly and honestly can also provide support, understanding and empathy to those who are struggling.
To mark Time to Talk Day, we’ll be hosting a Tea and Talk session, giving our team a chance to pause, take a break from their desks and check in with one another (and we normally have a tasty treat or two!) Sometimes, the smallest gestures—like taking a moment to ask “How are you really doing?”—can have the biggest impact (or comparing our love of empire biscuits!) This is just one of the ways we are keeping the Mental Health topic front of mind as a business.
It’s Time to Talk: Prioritising Mental Health in the Workplace
At Head Resourcing, we believe mental health is as important as physical health—not just on days like these but every day. We realise that you don’t have to be an expert or have all the answers, sometimes just listening and showing that you care can help.
The theme of Time to Talk Day reminds us that taking a moment to talk about how we’re feeling can make a huge difference, whether it's with a friend, family member, or colleague. It's not always easy to start these conversations, but they can be life-changing, helping to break down stigmas and create a culture of understanding and support.
Why Mental Health Matters in the Workplace
In today’s fast-paced and ever-demanding world, the workplace can sometimes add to the pressures people face. As a business, we have a responsibility to ensure that we’re fostering an environment where our team feels supported, not just in their roles but as individuals.
Investing in mental health isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s also the smart thing to do. A healthier and happier team is a more productive, engaged, and motivated one. We’ve seen the positive impact our health and wellbeing initiatives have had on collaboration and morale, such as ‘Miles for Mental Health’ or ‘Move More for Mental Health’. When people feel supported, they thrive, and so does our business.
Our Commitment to Mental Health
At Head Resourcing, we are proud to have two trained Mental Health First Aiders as part of our team. Lee Murray and Lyle Ritchie are there to offer initial support and guidance to colleagues who might be experiencing mental health challenges. They’re also key in helping us raise awareness, reduce stigma, and champion positive mental health practices across the organisation.
Lee Murray, one of our Mental Health First Aiders, shares her thoughts on the importance of this role:
"Being a Mental Health First Aider isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about being a listening ear and showing genuine care. Sometimes, just knowing someone is there to listen without judgment can be the first step toward healing. Supporting our team in this way is something I’m truly passionate about."
Taking Small Steps, Together
Taking a moment to check in—not only with others but with themselves. Ask yourself: How am I feeling? We start all meetings off with a quick check in and it’s very helpful.
We’ll also be encouraging our team to pause and take time out for conversations, whether over a coffee break, during our Tea and Talking or our regular team check-ins. Because it’s not about having all the answers—it’s about being there and showing we care.
Let’s Keep Talking
We’re committed to prioritising our own and our team’s mental health, learning, adapting, and prioritising the well-being of our team. Time to Talk Day is a great reminder of the power of a conversation, and we hope it inspires all of us to keep talking—not just today, but every day.
If you're part of our team, remember our Mental Health First Aiders are here for you. And if you're reading this as part of a wider community, we encourage you to take a moment today to start a conversation that could make a difference.
Let’s all make it Time to Talk.
